My research interests include entrepreneurship, innovation and the growth dynamics of companies, particularly international growth. I maintain a keen interest in the issues faced by companies operating in developing country contexts, particularly in Asia and the Pacific. I'm also interested in creative enterprises and creative cities.
Christopher Nailer is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Research School of Management, College of Business and Economics, at The Australian National University. He graduated in Chinese studies at the University of Melbourne in 1973. After postgraduate studies in Japanese language and literature at Waseda University in Tokyo, he completed a research Masters in Chinese literature at University of Melbourne.
He ran a small translation business and then joined Fujitsu Australia in 1980, becoming manager of the technical translation unit in 1981. In 1986, he graduated from the MBA program of the Australian Graduate School of Management at the University of New South Wales and worked for a year or so developing business plans for new ventures. He worked with the Sydney-based consulting company BIS Shrapnel from 1988 to 1993 and then joined IMA Asia Pty Ltd, working on international marketing strategies for Australian-based companies expanding their operations across Asia.
In 1997, he joined the Singapore office of The Economist Group as Director of Advisory Services and Regional Economist, providing business and economic advice to the Asia-Pacific Headquarters of over 200 multinational companies. In 2003 he returned to Australia and joined the management faculty at the ANU. He retired from the ANU in 2018.
